what is SoGal Foundation?
SoGal Foundation is the largest global platform for diverse entrepreneurs and investors. Spanning six continents with programming in 50+ cities, their mission is to close the diversity gap in entrepreneurship and venture capital. They partner with companies such as Walmart, Verizon, BlueMercury, and now amika to provide cash grants to Black women or nonbinary entrepreneurs.

What: amika is partnering with the SoGal Foundation to launch the “Rooted in Growth” Startup Grant Program. This program will provide grants of $25,000 to underrepresented founders. These grants will work to provide both longevity and sustainability in their businesses, which is why amika is also offering a mentorship program to support brands in areas such as professional distribution, marketing, finance, and more.
Who: This grant will be given to four underrepresented haircare founders and innovators
When: Applications close mid-July.
Why: “We have always valued diversity, but as we grew more aware of the inequities within our society and the beauty industry, we felt compelled to apply our brand values and make a true difference in the lives of our communities,” said amika brand president, Chelsea Riggs. “’Rooted in Growth’ Startup Grant will allow us to support up-and-coming haircare brand founders, with the goal of increasing equity in the beauty and haircare industry.”
