no other amika products are affected by this voluntary recall. although we are not recalling the amika mirrorball high shine + protect antioxidant conditioner, we recognize these two items may have been purchased together as a set, below is the list of sets that included mirrorball high shine + protect antioxidant shampoo and conditioner as a set:

flip your bottle of mirrorball shampoo over + check the lot code printed on the bottom of the bottle. if the number starts with “25-”, you have the updated version. if your lot code starts with "23-" or "24-" your product is included in the recall.

how do I get a refund for the affected products?

if you've determined that the product was included in the recall (verify via lot code printed on the bottom of the bottle), stop using the product. we are offering full refunds for all affected products and stand ready to assist with any questions or concerns.

we have been monitoring recent feedback citing change in odor & in rare cases, temporary irritation. there have been no reported serious adverse health events associated with using this product.

why is the amika product being recalled?

we initiated this recall after determining that various production batches at our third-party manufacturing site do not meet our stringent quality standards, due to the presence or potential presence of a bacterium called p. gergoviae. we are taking this proactive step to address any customer concerns and uphold trust in our brand. we take the safety of our products very seriously, and we know that you do too. we want to reassure you that, after consultation with an independent toxicology group, we are confident the use of this product does not pose a serious health or safety risk to healthy people. however, individuals with certain risk factors such as a weakened immune system or broken skin may be more susceptible to infection.

what are the health risks?

safety is of paramount importance to amika and our customers. although not every lot of product is affected, and we are confident the use of this product does not pose a serious health or safety risk to healthy individuals, we are voluntarily recalling all lots out of an abundance of caution and ask that you discontinue use.

am I likely to develop problems in the future as a result of my use of this product?

according to amika’s expert toxicologists, use of the amika mirrorball shampoo is not expected to harm the health of product users now or in the future.

how is amika conducting this recall?

we have instructed our retailers to stop selling the product and are in the process of notifying consumers to stop using the product. we are also instructing product purchasers on how to obtain refunds.

what is amika doing to address the issue?

we are committed to ensuring this situation does not happen again and have implemented the following measures:

reformulation: we have introduced a minor reformulation, to
eliminate any potential for future issues, while maintaining the
product’s high-performance results.
enhanced manufacturing protocols: we’ve adopted new,
more stringent manufacturing and testing standards.
retail collaboration: we are working closely with our partners
to remove all affected Mirrorball Shampoo lot codes from shelves
and warehouses, replacing them with the updated formulation as
soon as it is produced and thoroughly tested. We expect to be back
in stock with all retailers around/before April 2025.
