One of the biggest nights of fashion has come and gone once again, and as usual, it delivered. The star-studded event honored late designer Karl Lagerfeld with the theme “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” Not only did the ensembles go above and beyond (it was the cat suit for us), but the hairstyles were truly magnificent. This year, amika had the pleasure of getting a behind the scenes look with hairstylist Iggy Rosales, who created Kim Petras’ extreme sleek look. Keep reading for more!

the inspiration behind Kim Petras’ Met Gala hair look
Iggy told us, “this year for the Met Gala, I worked with Kim and Marc Jacobs to bring the look together. Last year, Kim dressed as a horse with hair to the floor, so this year we decided to take a different approach and strip back the costume element and create something chic and elegant that works harmoniously with the dress and makeup.”
“We decided upon a super sleek, shiny straight hairdo with all the hair brushed to one side to create dramatic effect when Kim’s posing on the red carpet. Kim’s hair is freshly bleached and fragile from being a pop star so we used all amika products to treat and style the hair to maintain the health of the hair and keep it looking silky.”

Are you as in love with Kim’s sleek and shiny look as much as we are? Recreate it at home by following Iggy Rosales’ steps below!
“We prepped Kim’s hair leading up to and on the day using amika’s the kure collection for dry, damaged hair. This ensured when we style Kim’s hair that it stays super shiny and doesn’t get frizzy or break. To start the look, I applied supernova moisture and shine cream into Kim’s wet hair and blow-dried straight.
I then sectioned her hair and ironed straight, applying glass action universal elixir to make the hair as shiny as it possibly could be and keep any flyways at bay.
I swooped Kim’s hair to the side and locked the style into shape using fluxus touchable hairspray.
I finished the look using top gloss shine spray just to give the hair just a little extra shine before the red carpet!”
