It may seem like using dry shampoo is second nature by now. You spray, massage into the scalp, and you’re on your way out the door. But what if we told you there are some key tips to making sure you maximize the benefits of your dry shampoo? Forget what you knew and keep reading to learn how to effectively use your dry shampoo.

spray at least 8 inches away from the scalp

This may seem like an obvious one, but it’s something even we here at amika forget sometimes when you’re trying to get somewhere in a hurry. To really get the most out of the properties from your dry shampoo, make sure to hold away from the scalp. The closer you apply to the scalp, the harder it will be to evenly distribute the product. This can also cause a white cast that wouldn’t normally be there.

let it sit + absorb

After you have applied the dry shampoo to your roots, TRY to be patient, and let it sit for a little while. This will allow the product to do its magic and absorb all the oil from your scalp, leaving you with the clean + fresh hair you desire.

thoroughly massage into scalp

This is a really important one. Once the product has absorbed, use your fingers to massage the product into the scalp even more. For a more even distribution, try brushing your hair with a brush after massaging. This will help to minimize the appearance of a white cast.

Now that we’ve given you the low down on how to really get the most out of your dry shampoo, we’re going to give you some cool tips + tricks to try to give you the best hair day ever.

if you’re SUPER oily

Do you shower at night and find that your hair is already greasy by morning? To combat this, try applying a dry shampoo (to dry hair), like perk up for example, BEFORE going to bed at night. This allows time for the dry shampoo to be absorbed into the hair, leaving you with fresh locks when you wake up!

Once you’ve repeated this process for a few days, it’s time to reset your scalp. Enter: reset pink charcoal scalp cleansing oil. While hair is still dry, use the needle nose tip to draw the product directly onto your scalp. Once you’ve stepped into the shower, wet your hair and gently massage the product into your roots. Rinse, then follow up with your favorite amika shampoo and conditioner. To try out this dream team, check out our limited addition dynamic duo dry shampoo lovers set

apply post-workout

Are you an avid gym rat or Classpass fiend? Then you NEEEEED a dry shampoo if you have any sort of plans after exercising. Perk up dry shampoo not only deodorizes the hair, but it’s a talc-free, true dry cleanser that absorbs oil and refreshes hair with natural rice starch, leaving no white cast EVER. It’s also the "Dry Shampoo" award winner for Beauty Launchpad's "Readers Choice Awards 2017: Haircare". But we’re not bragging or anything.

if your hair is flat + doesn’t hold style

Apply a dry shampoo to fresh hair (yeah, we said it) for ultimate volume and hold when styling. Clean hair doesn’t have a lot of grip and can be very hard to style, but not with perk up dry shampoo. Just apply a little to the roots for volume and hold. For extra hold, apply the shield anti-humidity spray from midshafts to ends, which acts as a heat protectant as well as a style extender. This product is heat activated, so you must blow dry or use a hot tool to get the maximum benefits out of this one!
