that feeling after a coveted salon blowout is truly a feeling like no other. a blow dry is different when a skilled stylist is working their magic on you. picture this: your eyes are closed and you’reprobably leaning into the hum of the dryer, about to fall asleep. you look up into the mirror and wow: voluminous, smooth, and shiny. you walk out of the salon with your hair blowing in the wind like a beyoncé music video, and you feel unstoppable. okay, now stay with us. what if you could recreate this feeling at home, as well as achieve the same results? our newest launch, hair blow dry brush, will do just that.but before we get into all the blow dryer details, we tapped our friend and amika pro stylist Mallery Savory to get her hot take (get it??) on nailing a salon-style blowout at home.

amika: hi, mallery! we want the pro perspective on all things hair blowout at home. why does hair preparation matter before you begin?

mallery: To get your style to last you want to use products and techniques that give your hair memory & hold, and that begins before you even step out of the shower! I always recommend beginning with big hit volumizing shampoo and conditioner to give strands a voluminous head start before you actually start the blowout part of the routine.

amika: can you tell us a little bit more about how to get a blowout to last?

mallery: the key is understanding that the curls are forming while your hair cools. A technique that I’ve used for a long time is setting sections you’ve already blow dried into rollers while they cool so that you get the fullest, bounciest blowout possible.

amika: love that. what are some of your must-have tools for a salon-level blowout at home?

mallery: the hairblow dryer brush! or a blow dryer with a concentrated nozzle like the CEO 360 dryer. other must-haves for a really amazing blowout are rollers, creaseless setting clips, and a round brush, of course!

amika: and what are some of your go-to products for really getting that bouncy, full blowout look you walk out with at the salon?

mallery: definitely start with big hit shampoo and conditioner. The other products I constantly reach for when I’m styling and blowing out areplus size mousse, bombshell blow out, rising star volumizing finishing spray. all are *chef’s kiss* for getting that full, big volume look.

now that you’ve got a sense of what you’ll need to achieve your best-ever blowout, we’re going in on our hair blow dry brush and giving you all the details to make drying and styling a breeze!

before using the blow dryer, start with a heat protectant like the shield anti-humidity spray (we recommend this for finer hair types) or blockade heat defense serum (we recommend this for thicker hair types) to help save the integrity and health of your hair.

then, turn on the tool by rotating the temperature control dial clockwise to your desired setting. if you have thicker hair or curlier hair in pattern, we recommend using a higher heat setting for your desired outcome.

take a large section of hair and start brushing through. if you do have a thicker or curlier hair type, you may want to try slower passes to maximize the efforts of the brush. and, if you love your ends to curve in and frame towards your face, rotate the brush towards the end of the hair shaft to create that inward curve.

let’s let erica fae show us how it’s done:

dryer differences

so, what makes this different from the other tools in our line up? and when should you be using each? we’re so glad you asked! let’s break down our blow dry tools and which method is right for you:

hair blow dryer brush: this easy-to-use tool takes wet or damp hair to dry and voluminous in a breeze. if your hair is already damp (get as much extra water out before use as possible) and you’re short on time, or you’re just plain bad at the traditional method of a blow out, use this tool to help you get out the door faster.

blowout babe thermal brush: this tool is used for dry styling only, so your hair cannot be damp or wet, but this best seller is great for refreshing blowouts and giving volume to already dry hair.

ceo 360 dryer: this classic blow dryer gets an innovative update with a patented, modern design and hair-healthy technology. our pink signature dryer comes ready with all the bells and whistles: user-friendly rotating dials, multipurpose ion generators that let you choose your hair adventure (volume or sleekness!), 3 temperature settings and 2 different speeds, a cool shot button, and 2 concentrators. in other words, it’s a dryer fit for a CEO.

hair blow dryer brushes are one of the most popular hair tools around thanks to their multifunctional abilities and because they make a once-very-difficult-feat easy for all! but what makes our hair blow dryer brush different from the rest?

lightweight - like we mentioned before, this brush is just .85lbs, which is lighter than other leading brushes on the market.

longer cord + 360° swivel – our blow dry brush has a 9-foot cord, which is 1-3ft longer than competitors. it also includes a swivel that rotates a full 360°. this allows for easier control and use.
